On behalf of the Before It’s Too Late Conservation Community. I urge you to safeguard the future of the California Tiger Salamander (Ambystoma californiense) by listing the species as Threatened under the California state Endangered Species Act.
Our planet’s bio diversity is under serious threat, none the least of which are amphibians.
Populations globally are declining at unprecedented and alarming rates. Nearly one-third of the world’s 6,629 amphibian species are threatened with extinction. Up to 200 species have completely disappeared since 1980.
This constitutes the largest mass extinction event in recorded history. For more information on this I suggest you look at some of our video clips entitled Croaking Frogs
Amphibian populations are faced with an onslaught of environmental problems, including pollution, infectious diseases, habitat loss, invasive species, climate change, and over-harvesting for the pet and food trades. Unless these problems are remedied, amphibian species will continue to disappear, resulting in irreversible consequences to the planet’s ecosystems and to humans.
Who is responsible for this? Humanity. Therefore it is our duty to put a stop to this catastrophe and protect these wonderful animals and ensure their long-term persistence.
This week the California Fish & Game Commission has the opportunity to make a significant contribution to worldwide amphibian conservation efforts by listing the California Tiger Salamander (Ambystoma californiense) as Threatened under the State Endangered Species Act. This species is and has been under serious threat from habitat destruction, road mortality and hybridization with non-native species.
Without the protections afforded by the Endangered Species Act, there is a significant chance that these salamanders will go extinct in coming decades.
Your own scientific data concludes that the California Tiger Salamander is threatened with extinction, therefore I urge you, to list the species as Threatened under the state Endangered Species Act, before it’s too late.
I am sure as caring human beings you will, and I thank you in advance.

A new annual report on the state of the world's plants and animals shows a third of all species catalogued are now threatened with extinction.
This year, the International Union for the Conservation of Nature's (IUCN) Red List includes a Madagascan rodent, a tree frog from Panama, and a spray toad from Tanzania all listed as "extinct in the wild."
Thirteen-hundred species of dragonflies and seven freshwater snails from China also joined the threatened list.
Australia is listed as one of the worst developed countries on the list, with 800 animal and plant species at risk of extinction.
